SUPER MARIO BROS.

Nintendo EAD internally created the platform video game Super Mario Bros. in 1985. In Super Mario Bros., the player takes control of Mario, and in a two-player game, a different player assumes control of Mario’s brother Luigi as he explores the Mushroom Kingdom in an effort to save Princess Toadstool from Bowser. Goombas, Koopa Troopas, Bowser, Peach, and its three power-ups—the Super Mushroom – were all introduced in Super Mario Bros.

PRINCE OF PERSIA

The 1989 release of Jordan Mechner’s fantasy platform game Prince of Persia for the Apple II marked a significant improvement in the level of animation used in video games. Prince of Persia was ported to a variety of systems after its initial release on the Apple II. Despite appearing repetitious at first, the game surprised and captured the player. The player’s main goal is to get the unidentified protagonist into a tower and out of dungeons before time runs out.

FINAL FANTASY VII

A role-playing video game called Final Fantasy VII was created by Square for the PlayStation in 1997. It is the first main series title to have a PAL release and was published in Japan by Square before being made available elsewhere by Sony Computer Entertainment. The plot of the game centers on Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins an eco-terrorist group to thwart a megacorporation that rules the world from utilizing the planet’s life force as an energy source.

STREETS OF RAGE 2

Sega released the side-scrolling beat ’em up video game Streets of Rage 2 for the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992. In the side-scrolling beat-’em-up Streets of Rage 2, one or two players battle waves of foes while gathering weapons and goods. Along with Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, who is returning, the game also features Max Thunder and Eddie “Skate” Hunter as brand-new characters, the quick-moving rollerblading brother of Adam Hunter from the previous game.

DOOM

First-person shooter game Doom was released in 2016 by Bethesda Softworks and developed by id Software. Since Doom 3 in 2004, it is the first significant entry in the Doom series. The Union Aerospace Corporation has let loose demonic demons from Hell within its energy-mining plant on Mars. Players assume the role of the “Doom Slayer,” a nameless space marine. With more open-ended stages, the gameplay returns to the style of the first two games rather than Doom 3’s slower survival horror style.
